Korea is known for many unique traits but fashion is one of the most popular trait. Koreans are often seen wearing unique but stylish outfits. Although many outfits may seem expensive, many are relatively cheap and easy to find. There are also many popular brands that are more expensive, usually seen on the richer families. There are also many fashion icons in Korea that influence the average teenager.
All About The Patterns
Korean fashion consists of mostly females so patterns are often seen in their outfits. From skirts to bags, plaids and grids are seen on every little piece of clothing.
Color COORDINATION Is A Must
Along with patterns, color coordination is a must for Korean fashion. Many girls like to match with their friends or just their outfits in general. They tend to go for cold or hot colors. Pastel is a very popular color choice among teenagers/young adults.
G-DRAGON
One of the biggest fashion icons in the world, G-Dragon is part of a K-Pop group called Big Bang. He is the leader and main rapper for the group. He was born and raised in Seoul, South Korea and was originally casted into SM Entertainment, until one day he found interest in a hip hop group. He eventually followed their footsteps and joined YG Entertainment. He is widely known for his fashion sense and have been invited to many fashion shows around the world. He is also a regular at Chanel and have been seen next to many high-end designers.
CL
Alongside G-Dragon, CL is a member of a girl group called 2NE1 who is also in the same company as Big Bang, called YG Entertainment. She is the main rapper for her group and in charge for speaking English. She spent most of her childhood living in Paris and Tokyo and was casted into YG Entertainment at the age of 15. CL is known for having many connections to American artists such as Diplo, Skrillex, and Riff Raft. She has often wore clothes by Jeremy Scott's brand Moschino.
JESSICA JUNG
Jessica Jung is a former member of the girl group Girl's Generation under the label SM Entertainment. Now being solo, she has pursued her interest in fashion and created her own fashion line called BLANC & ECLARE. She was born and raised in San Francisco, CA so she is fluent in both Korean and English and has many connections with American markets. She also has a sister, Krystal, that is in the same label but in a different girl group named f(x). They are often seen together and are both fashion influences to the younger generation.
IRENE KIM
Irene Kim is Korean-American who was born in Seattle, WA then moved to Seoul, South Korea when she was in middle school. She later left to study textile design at FIT in New York. She became a model only a few years ago by looking up "Korean fashion agencies" and called the first one that popped up. She is mostly known for her signature hair which is dyed blue and red/pinkish at the ends of her bob. Although she is not employed in the "Big Four" fashion cities, she walks many shows in Seoul and for Chanel. She is often featured in Vogue however.
Progress: I'm glad I was finally able to add Korean fashion into my blog because it's one of my favorite styles of fashion. Koreans are very open minded and have very new ideas that I would love to see more of in the future. It was fun for me to look up this topic because I already had knowledge on Korean fashion and these fashion icons. Since there was a lot I already knew, this topic was easy for me to work on. Koreans are very simple with their outfits so that made the pictures easier to pick since there are actually many similar ones. Since these fashion icons have been in numerous fashion shows, I hope to learn more about the shows and expect more amazement.
Reflection: Like I said in my progress paragraph, Korean fashion is one of my favorite styles and I was glad I was able to incorporate this style into my blog. I don't usually look up photos on Korean fashion so it was interesting for me to see how many new styles have been out since the last time I checked. And I also didn't realize that some of my favorite fashion icons have been to so many fashion shows around the world. I am very happy to see some of these fashion icons become more known globally. I've actually seen Irene Kim in real life once at KCON 2015. She was very tall and beautiful it was amazing seeing her in real life. I hope to learn more about this style and even the culture too in the future.
