Blog #10: Coachella

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival (known as Coachella) is an annual music and arts festival that's held in Indio , California, located in the Inland Empire's Coachella Valley in the Colorado Dessert. It was co-founded by Paul Tollett and Rick Van Santen in 1999. This event features a variety of musical artists from many genres including indie, rock, hip hop, and electronic dance music. Not only that but this event also featues art installations and sculptures. There are many stages across the grounds that continuously hosts live music. Coachella is one of the largest, most famous, and most profitable music festivals in America and all around the world.

FLORAL

Flowers are every girls favorite. And at Coachella, there will be floral everything. From head crowns to long dresses, floral is a must for Coachella. There are many different types of flowers and colors, but the people will almost always make every flower special and appealing.

BOHEMIAN FASHION

Bohemian is usually applied to people who live artistic lives. The best known examples are the Stephen sisters, Vanessa Bell and Virginia Woolf in the early 20th century. Original bohemians were actually travelers or refugees from central Europe. The Sunday Times actually thought it was ironic that "fashionable girls wore ruffly floral skirts in the hope of looking bohemian, nomadic, spirited and non-bourgeois", whereas "gypsy girls themselves ... are sexy and delightful precisely because they do not give a hoot for fashion". By the first half of the 20th century, bohemian fashion became a lifestyle.

HIPSTER

Hipsters are typically classified as upper middle class who reside primarily in new and improved neighborhoods. They usually listen to indie and alternative music, a non-mainstream fashion sense, vintage and thrift store clothes, organic foods, and alternative lifestyles. The term "hipster" first appeared in the 90's and became more well known in the early 2010's. Hipsters don't actually call themselves hipsters, but the word is used to describe someone who is trendy and in style. Often men are more hipster than women due to their neat beards and twirly mustaches.

Progress: Coachella is a place I've never been before but I have seen many similar outfits outside of the music festival. My own cousin is in fact very into the Bohemian style and I've been exposed to this type of fashion many times now. It was a little difficult for me to figure out the different styles within the one big style since everything is similar. But I can start to notice the smaller details that set these styles apart from each other. I've noticed that these styles have changed throughout the years, more accessories, more floral, more everything. And sometimes even less of everything, less fabric, less color, less accessories.

Reflection: I loved researching this topic because I love seeing the spring outfits that people wear especially the week of Coachella. I think this music festival can really bring true joy out of a person not only because of the music but the lifestyle, of styles and art and of course music. The simple but elegant styles are definitely one of my favorites. The cute flower headbands adds a touch of innocence on the outfit. I love how the colors seems to just come together no matter what you wear. I really hope to be able to go to Coachella one day and experience the beauty myself.
